A
Workshop on
Self-Awareness
& Peer Influence
“But
the Lord said unto Samuel, look not on his countenance, or on the height of his
stature; because I’ve refused him: for the Lord seeth not as the man seeth; for
man looketh on the outward appearance, but the lord looketh on the heart.”
Pouring the idea of this Biblical verse on the minds of Ahlconites, a workshop
was organized in the school on 7th April’ 2016 in the school
conference room to eradicate such negative views. The resource persons for the
session were Ms. Diana and Ms. Shelja from “School of life” All the girls of
ninth standard took active interest in the various discussions and activities
held at the workshop which marked an end to the hunt of answers to the
questions every teenager looks for.
The
one-hour workshop focused upon the ill-mentality and stereotypes emerging in
the society regarding the way people usually judge others on the basis of how
they look. Moreover, it was a great initiative to discuss these kind of
problems faced at this age when girls are unable to deal with such issues.
These remarks and comments usually end up in whisking away their confidence as
more than them, they start belonging to the society, to the social evils.
Students
took part in the stirring activities with utmost vigor. They were given a
couple of tasks or questions which actually marked an eye-opening experience
for children. The whole message was conveyed to the students in a very catchy
way using examples of celebrities, real life situations and above all, the
experiences of the students themselves. We were given a very comfortable
platform to the girls where they felt free to keep their opinions in front of
all. Many came up with their problems and experiences about how they responded
when they had to face these kinds of comments on their outlook. This certainly
made it more interesting and easier for the students to think beyond outer
beauty and analyze the current situations of their minds.
The
diligent efforts of our counselor, Chetna ma’am and the zealous response from
the students made this initiative successful. The vivacious Ahlconites exited
with their hearts beating with the beats of change and with a more honed mind
than that which entered the hall.
